Cynthia Ramirez de Lopez

Cynthia grew up in El Paso, Texas and went on to pursue her higher education at The University of Texas at El Paso. While her husband served in the military, Cynthia traveled frequently and taught at schools around the U.S. until she found her home here in Edgewood ISD. She is currently a Bilingual Pre-Kinder Teacher at HBG Elementary and says that teaching has been a passion of hers ever since an experience she had with a dedicated, childhood teacher. "I hated school. I was a bilingual kid who spoke predominately Spanish and I struggled learning English. I didn' t have the skills to read or write until my teacher took the time to pull me aside and teach me. I recently had the opportunity to reconnect with my childhood teachers and share with them my story. I wouldn' t be where I am today without that push. " Today, Cynthia says that being an EISD teacher provides her with the tools she needs to be successful in the classroom. "EISD really allows me to shine within my grade level and to give kids what they really need. I have the flexibility to go in-depth with vocabulary, developing concepts and creating ideas with students that might not be able to develop at home. My focus is on my kids' needs and I feel that I'm able to use strategies that really encompass those. " After finding out she was nominated Teacher of the Year, Cynthia felt humbled and was sure to credit her peers for their continued support. "I work amongst some wonderful teachers that go above and beyond, I wish we could all get recognized but I feel honored knowing that my peers and even my boss recognized my efforts. One thing I do enjoy is seeing my students want to come in, work with me and show effort. Seeing their faces light up - that' s what gets me in the door every morning. "
